The Pilgrimage of Discovery is excited to announce the launch of its Alumni Leadership Network (ALN), an initiative designed to keep the spirit of the pilgrimage alive long after the journey to Constantinople ends. The ALN will foster an ongoing connection among past participants, create opportunities for engagement, strengthen a shared commitment to Orthodoxy and the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and grow the future leaders of the Church. As more Pilgrimages take place, this group will continue to expand, organically growing the alumni program.
The Pilgrimage of Discovery Alumni Leadership Network provides a meaningful way for past participants from different years to come together from all over the country, fostering lifelong connections and strengthening their shared commitment to faith and culture. By uniting alumni across multiple pilgrimage years, this program creates a lasting community that continues to grow beyond the initial journey.
The ALN also deepens participants’ connection to Constantinople, reinforcing their understanding of its spiritual and historical significance, while also spreading the message of the Ecumenical Patriarch and the importance of our faith’s global presence.
"The Pilgrimage of Discovery is a life-changing experience as participants return changed and energized to grow in their relationship with Christ and involvement in His Church. These alumni leaders are not simply the future of the Church but the present, and through continued education, fellowship and service, they will help the Church not only stay relevant but thrive in the 21st century and they will be a beacon of Orthodoxy for America and the rest of the world to see!” said Archon Dr. James Schooley, who will help lead this initiative.
To kick off the program, an Alumni Reunion for the first two groups of Pilgrimage of Discovery participants is being hosted May 16-18, 2025 in Chicago. This gathering will provide an opportunity for alumni to reflect on past pilgrimages, discuss the future of the program, explore ways to continue promoting Orthodoxy in the Ecumenical Patriarchate and across the world, and continue their individual growth as leaders within the Church.
Through guest speakers, ongoing discussions, and mentorship opportunities, alumni will gain deeper insights into their faith and how they can contribute to its preservation and growth. Most importantly, this program ensures that the pilgrimage is not just a singular experience but an ongoing journey, where each generation of participants carries forward the legacy of discovery, engagement, and advocacy for Orthodoxy.
Pilgrimage of Discovery Founder Hellena Chrones shared her vision for this new initiative: "This program was created to spark a deeper connection for young adults through faith and Orthodox heritage. Through the Alumni Program, we ensure that this journey continues when they return from Constantinople, strengthening the Orthodox community for years to come."
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and many other generous donors, whose unwavering support has made the Pilgrimage of Discovery and now the Alumni Leadership Network program possible. Their dedication ensures that young Orthodox leaders not only experience this transformative journey but also remain engaged in their faith long after their return.
As we build this alumni network, we invite all past and future pilgrims to stay involved, share their experiences, and help shape the future of the Pilgrimage of Discovery. To continue to follow along with the Pilgrimage Discovery, follow us on social media.
